The Rescue (2005) – Explosions in the sky. The band of brothers have something Peter Petrelli also do. They have the talents and the gifts to take you exploding in the sky of sorrow, of madness, of boredom, of relief, of sanity, and so on... They refused to sing, letting their musical instruments go to where their hearts want to explore, enjoying the sore. Look at the record's cover. Take a look at the wolf picture on the wall. Let the wall bark. Let the lights be dark. Hide your pills and booze, and your sharp knives. The songs are sharp enough to cut it deep to your pandora’s heart of disgraceful past time you want to forget. Download the materials legally from the band's official site

Johnny Depp, Winona Ryder, Dianne Wiest, and Anthony Michael Hall Directed by Tim Burton
Edward Scissorhands (1990) – This one is my favorite saga about the best Hollywood prince and princess (at the time), lovely Winona and dearest Johnny. Some kind of feel good movie, mixing post-war American dream housing neighborhood with just a little bit of the Grimm Brothers' dark cloud and grey yard suspense. Some people said that Scissorhands' appearance came from The Cure's Robert Smith (for his wicked hairdo and make up) + Freddy Krueger (for his sharp long hands) + Michael Jackson (for his BDSM leather outfit and pale skin). The screenplay is very entertaining introductory to Tim Burton darker works.

Cloverfield (2008) - After not-so-good Mission Impossible 3, several seasons of Lost and Alias, J.J. Abrams took his ideas and concepts to ze monsta kind of movie. What to do? Let's crunch NYC one more time. How to do it? Let's make any spectators feel the thrill. Abrams gathers few inexpensive beautiful actors, a personal video camera, Blair Witch approach, Gojira kind of mutant, few tanks, jets, coppers and an ounce of viral marketing. Voila! You have a box office. So brilliant to earned five times of its US$ 30 million production cost this far. Attention guys! In the nearest cinema, please avoid sitting to close to the screen. This one is youtube users friendly.

Barbarella (1968) – Arguably said, she is the most important intergalactic heroine from the 41st century. The tale started with the infamous zero gravity striptease covered by floating credit title. Moreover, the more enemy she met, the more shredded her clothes was. From vicious dolls with metal teeth, blind angels, to the giggling torture organs, from frame to frame holds your interest to see what scene will caress your senses next. From the lava lamp, the wall of furs, to the plastic costumes, its anachronistically sixties. Every man wants to be the king of the galaxy if she was the queen. No wonder Simon LeBon and Co. from the eighties wants to be her villains.

The Host / Gwoemul (2006) – A sunny afternoon. A mysterious thing. Under the bridge downtown. It gobbles up people left and right, as it hangs from the bridge by the tail and glides effortlessly through the Han River in Seoul. You'd think you were watching the dolphins at Sea World. It is way too late to realize, an acrobatic monster, with very sharp teeth comes out. Spoiling picnics, eating citizens and incurring the wrath of a surprisingly intrepid working-class family. Everybody’s new favourite Korean monster movie delivers both a great creature and a well-calibrated mix of suspense, comedy and political satire. People, beware of the american rip-off!

We Don’t Need to Wishper (2006) – What will you get if Peter Pan fled from Neverland with Stratocaster guitar in his hands and is now just a little bit older and thinking about the holy war between factions and the end of the world? You’ll be flying with the angels and bursting through the airwaves. Layers of sonic sounds, overdrive choruses, nasal laments and emotional anger are put together into a composition. Sometimes it feels like floating softly but sometimes we have to face air bumps anyway. The boys are trying to share an epic. The one which is rarely rare these days.

On and On (2003) – Do you miss the sand beaches? Well, I know I do. And I know what to do. Turn on your stereo set and let Mr. Johnson put the surfboard in the garage and get his acoustic folk guitar from the case. It is not necessary to put your yellow green red shirt on or burn one down or praise the jah jah one. This one is much more colorful in shades. Let him hum and jangle. As he knows sometimes we need to dance and move the booty and another to relax and lay it down. He is the sunny feel good-vibe of all day.

Euphoria Morning (1999) – This is the time when the man ask a lot of questions, previously shouting and whining, now simply with a clear voice. A steel rain. Is just like nothing but the pain. It was a little shock for the garden's fans waiting for a crunch metal zep-sabbath thing. This one is blue, touches you sliding away with sorrow and gloom in your backyard. Sultry, sadness, lost. Like drifting alone in a class full of mates, in the bus driving insane, yet you flow slow. Like a stone. Elle changera le monde, mais elle ne peut pas me changer. Deny deny.

In The Clear (2004) – Put on your helmets, err... headphones. I experienced their music thanks to that device. With a cover work as interesting as commercial flight’s window, they will take you floating high through the cloud without hitting the sun. They are standing just in between electronic samples, acoustic guitars, the folkloric past and the futuristic ambience. Simpicity of pop music without any intention to be too smart. Serious while luscious. The voice is just like a french maid trying to interpret english words. It sounds so cute and funny. Listening this band's songs, we never want Dominique to perfect her english.

Apollo Atmospheres Soundtracks (1983) – Do you want to know how it feels standing, crawling, walking on the moon? Brian Eno (with longtime partner, Daniel Lanois) will take you there instantly. No helmet, no suit, no oxygen mask, no rocketship, nothing needed. Just turn on your player, put on your headphones. Up-up-up we go. Weightless, vivid. This man (with Lanois) is also responsible in crafting U2’s huge, stadium, ambient sounds that electrifies the masses in the late 80’s. After this album, you wouldn’t care anymore whether the apollo landing happens to be a x-files style conspiracy theory or real.

Disintegration (1989) – This is a work of the very well known, The Cure. And this one is too important to miss. You … on a plain. The edge of world. Cold wind whistling Melancholic fog scraping, and damp air touching. Just you and your dying love. Smiling. lying, dying, helplessly. This short story open brilliantly slow, very slow. Believing in a hopeless dream is keeping the faith. Eyes open wide, reaching hand is a reaching hand, feel your blood slowly moving in your veins, contemplating. Every pictures is alive, every whispering nightmare is a tingling message, every movement is a sign. Don’t break yourself, put it on, play it once, stay forever. Close your eyes.

Singles (1992) – Mid-twenties, singles, bored, insecure, loveless. I’m interested to this motion picture because of its portrayal of Seattle in its grunge era. But don’t get it wrong, this isn’t about stardom and rock n’ roll. You’ll only get a glimpse of Seattle-sound there. Its just the location and time setting. This drama is very funny and very-very mid-twenties, with its dreams and anxiety. Real enough, without being too dramatic or wise. You’ll get loads of cameos from top grunge heroes, and watch out for Tim Burton acting as a lousy director.

Instinct (2000) – In a quiet lonely aimless night, I was strolling with a friend. Then he put this tune on. It was like a magical chant to me. And afterwards, this album is becoming my soundtrack before my 9 to 5 and after. This one is like a dose of therapeutic treat to tense veins and stressing daily problems, in your car, in the bus, in the train. With mandalay’s tunes embracing your ear, the speeding cars and passer by looks like played in slow-mo mode. Ambient, delicate, consistent, echoes, virtuosity. Once again, the beauty of electronic melancholy win the heart.

A Tale of Two Sisters / Janghwa, Hongryeon (2003) – Don’t judge a film by his poster. But, this one has a very intriguing family portrait. So I watched this one. Yes, since late nineties, it seems that asian ghosts are getting scarier and scarier and also appearing in daytime now! With a different pace from her hollywood siblings, this korean movie could keep its suspense and mystery. What is better, this one doesn’t overuse the computer generated images. Odd characters, quiet day, beautiful house in the prairie, perfect setting. Yet, the last piece of the puzzle is very, very…

Let it Come Down (1998) -- Been once again brokenhearted by the dearest girl next door? Bored by all those electronic, monotonous, distorted sounds? Simmer down… Turn this one on. Mellow as it seems, James Yoshinobu Iha unplugged from his stacks of effects he shredded wildly with the pumpkins. Then he embrace the acoustic guitar in front of his living room windows, facing the mountains. You'd understand why acoustical sounds could slip into your ear easily. Positive choruses, sunny harmonies and simple melodies of the 70's revived. Yee-haa!

George Clooney, John Torturro, Tim Blake Nelson Directed by Joel Coen
O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000) -- This motion picture successfully make me feel like a real southern (America, that is). Brilliant cinematography with a dry colour, old skool American bluegrass soundtrack and a hilly billy accent; hand to hand, the elements helps us experience the ambient of the early 1900's in that area. It tells the story of three cons trying to find their hidden treasure. This tale is a free interpretation of Homer's classic, Odyssey. Out of those other Coen Brother's pieces, this artwork is my favourite. Hillariously funny, without being too slapstical. As they spelled ‘run off’ as R-U-N-N O-F-T.

Before Sunset (2004) -- I always want to see Before Sunrise, a story about a few hours interaction between an american guy and a french girl, in a train ride across Europe. Before I finally got the chance to see that one, here comes the sequel, Before Sunset. (Pay attention to the difference, 'Sunset' and 'Sunrise', seeee? :) Simple yet clever dialogues. So witty, it makes you wonder how the prequel is. All you dramaniacs, it's a big no-no to miss this one. Attention! Before Sunset is hazardous for those married person who is still remembering their old lovers.
